Front end for data exchange with the data warehouse.

With GAPTEQ, Austrian Airlines' Controlling department has found its ideal front end for data exchange with the data warehouse and has single-handedly mapped its investment planning with the low-code platform.

Highlights

Challenge

The Controlling Department at Austrian Airlines was looking for a tool to simplify master data maintenance in the data warehouse. The previous solution was no longer suitable, mainly because the newly introduced Microsoft Sharepoint version no longer allowed write-backs to the SQL tables.

After extensive market research, GATPEQ proved to be the optimal alternative: a technically viable, web-enabled and audit-proof standard software that can be operated and further developed by the department itself.

Solution

The implementation of master data maintenance with GAPTEQ was the task of a dual student who only had basic programming experience. Within a few hours, this application was ready and operational.

Due to this successful start, the controllers subsequently converted the entire investment planning for the department from Excel to GAPTEQ. The student was also able to set up this comprehensive solution independently in a short period of time. The good documentation and available examples from GAPTEQ were helpful in this regard, and the manufacturer's helpdesk was able to provide quick assistance with occasional questions.

‘GAPTEQ is a tool for specialists. It's fun to work with.’

Albert Kremer, Planning & Reporting Systems at Austrian Airlines

Austrian Airlines' industry-specific investment planning, which is too individual for a standard planning tool, could be flexibly mapped in GAPTEQ. Among other things, aircraft investments, for example in engines and other capital investments, are planned in GAPTEQ. Book value and depreciation calculations were easily integrated into the software via stored procedures. Since the existing sophisticated planning model only had to be transferred to the structures of GAPTEQ, the new application was quickly implemented: within just two weeks, Excel was replaced by GAPTEQ as the new planning front end. The high performance of GAPTEQ was particularly convincing, which is why IT is now also testing the use of GAPTEQ in various departments.

Result

Around 30 controllers and planners at Austrian Airlines now work with the GAPTEQ environment. From master data maintenance to detailed investment planning, business users have a convenient and secure tool for entering data into the data warehouse. When creating multi-year investment plans, all data and calculations are now immediately available on a central platform.

‘It is important for controlling that the department was able to set up the applications it needed independently and without a large project framework using the low-code platform, and that it can now also change and expand them at any time.’

Albert Kremer, Planning & Reporting Systems at Austrian Airlines
