dentinostic is a start-up that offers professional help with dental problems. Patients can submit their concerns to dentists via an app and receive a diagnosis, treatment plan or private prescriptions at short notice – completely digitally and without an appointment or fear of visiting the dentist. GAPTEQ regulates the structured and secure interaction between dentists and patients in the backend of the system architecture.

The start-up dentinostic is a completely new addition to the healthcare market: a professional app for digital dental diagnosis and consultation. The reason for its development was the highly successful social media channel run by the founder of dentinostic on dental topics (https://www.tiktok.com/@dr.dentin.a), which quickly gained over 100,000 followers. The demand for advice is high; the many enquiries from the user community could hardly be handled via social media. With several dentists involved and a specially developed app, the service was therefore expanded and professionalised.

With the dentinostic app, patients can enter their concerns using structured forms and upload videos. The system distributes the enquiries to the participating dentists, who send their diagnoses and treatment recommendations in the form of a doctor's letter and, if necessary, private prescriptions or referrals to a local dentist. As with a normal visit to the doctor's surgery, billing is based on the fee schedule for doctors.

The app is used, for example, for a digital initial diagnosis or for a second opinion and has the advantage that no appointment is necessary and no time needs to be set aside for a visit to a practice – around 30 per cent of cases can already be completed in this way. Doctors are also available at any time and without restriction for any queries.

The start-up team developed the app entirely on its own. The case data for the treatments is managed via a central SQL database. The team sought a convenient web interface that could be integrated into the app and quickly and flexibly set up and further developed without external IT specialists, providing doctors with a working environment in which they could easily access the database and record their diagnoses. The team understood that this control panel would need to be developed individually for dentists, as no such application currently exists on the market.

Solution

The targeted search for an easy-to-use low-code platform for visualising and capturing data that also complies with the strict data protection guidelines for medical applications yielded a clear result: GAPTEQ was the only and right solution for the start-up.

Dr Tina Mandel, the founder of dentinostic, worked with her IT colleague to set up the GAPTEQ environment as a data bridge between doctors and patients. The data entered into the app interface by the patient is transferred to the SQL database and retrieved from there by the doctors via GAPTEQ. The dentists in turn enter their diagnoses into the database via GAPTEQ, from where they are made available for retrieval via the app.

The interface was designed in collaboration with dentists, with whom possible cases, their classification and procedures were categorised and mapped in the system. Agile development is important for the company: During a test of the app with the team of doctors in the practice, for example, extensive technical requirements were formulated, which the internal team was then able to map in GAPTEQ within the next two days. Dr Tina Mandel notes: ‘With GAPTEQ, we develop and change on the fly. The fast and cost-effective development without external IT resources is what makes the tool so valuable to us.’

Result

With the help of GAPTEQ, dentinostic can offer qualified medical treatments in a professional IT environment: with a central database, fast and easy processing via a convenient web environment, clearly documented and traceable case management, and GDPR-compliant security.

The idea of offering patients a low-threshold service in digital form was thus transformed into a market-ready app in an agile and cost-efficient manner. The founders see great potential for the app. In several medical disciplines, remote medical treatment has already proven to fill a real gap in an increasingly strained healthcare system, and digital dental treatment has not yet been available. With GATPEQ, dentinostic is well prepared – the IT environment is freely scalable and places no limits on growing patient and data volumes or technical enhancements to the new offering.
